This mix is excellent. I could never understand how 2-step died off, considering it stretches from the commercial likes of “Flowers” to the more underground its-so-low-it-hertz-me stuff a la Zed Bias, and even now Burial taking it in a more atmospheric/cinematic/whatever hyperbole you’re having yourself direction. Its still very sexy to my ears, and I think there’s more in it to get women dancing than the standard head nodding dubstep rythym. Not to be sexist or anything but dubstep raves with lads in hoodies nodding their heads in front of the decks while pointing at the DJ and flicking their lighter does not a good night out make. That 2-step kick just makes me want to move my body around the venue like a slinky, grooving in time with the wobbling bassline. I hope it resurfaces big time.

re B-15, yep definite link to UB40 there, I think a cousin of one of the members possibly.

I read in Muzik magazine years ago that through UB40 (who, I think like Mick Hucknall are actually heavy reggae heads with proper links to JA), B-15 got access to loads of non-commercially available acapellas of Jamacian deejays/vocalists.

cos B-15 Project are from Birmingham – that’s what the B’s for… possibly one of UB40 is part of them, certainly they’re linked with UB40, i think that oracabessa label is theirs/run by one of them
